Which Foods and Beverages Should You Avoid After A Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment?

When people think about getting teeth whitening treatment, they believe it alone will solve their dental problems. However, it is the aftercare that makes all the difference. After getting your teeth whitened professionally at a clinic, you must be wary of what foods you eat and beverages you drink to keep them pearly white.

One of the easiest ways to maintain teeth whitening results for a long time is by watching what you want. With so many foods and drinks, it can be difficult to understand what to eat and what to avoid. If your teeth have stains and it is making you feel conscious, teeth whitening treatments can help. Visit cosmetic dentistry in Phoenix today.

Foods and beverages to avoid after a professional teeth whitening procedure

    • Acidic foods.

Foods containing high amounts of acidic ingredients are the number one cause of your teeth’s enamel weakening. You should avoid acidic foods after teeth whitening treatment at all costs, or you might end up wasting your investment. The more your enamel weakens, the more difficult it will become for you to consume hot and cold foods and beverages due to high sensitivity. Some common items to avoid include:

    • Pineapples
    • Pickled foods
    • Citrus fruits
    • Tomatoes
    • Processed meats
    • Dark fruits and vegetables.

Dark fruits and vegetables containing color pigments can easily stain your teeth. Even if you brush your teeth and rinse after every meal, there is a high possibility of these pigments staining your teeth. Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, carrots, purple cabbage, beetroots, etc., contain dark-colored pigments.

    • Sweets or sugary drinks.

If you are fond of sweets and sugary drinks like juices or soft drinks, you may need to change your diet after your teeth whitening procedure. If you must have something sweet, ensure you do not consume more than a small bite of white chocolate or other light-colored food items, and rinse your teeth as soon as possible.

Sugar is high in acid, and allowing it to linger in your mouth for a long time promotes enamel erosion. Rinsing your mouth helps protect your newly treated smile.

    • Red wine.

The infamous stubbornness of red wine is known by all, which is why it is one of the most important drinks you should avoid after a teeth whitening treatment. If you are already a consumer of red wine, you would have noticed your teeth becoming purple after having a few sips. After the treatment, your teeth will be whiter, and the stains will be more noticeable.
