A lot of people use porcelain veneers for the replacement of their teeth to get desired results. These veneers help enhance the appearance and aesthetic of your teeth and your smile. Porcelain veneers are shells that are designed in the shape of teeth for restoring the imperfections of teeth and certain orthodontic problems with the help of a Monterey, CA dentist.

Porcelain veneers are preferred for their durability as they provide the desired look for several years. However, just like everything, they also have a limit. They require replacements after some time due to several reasons. The reasons are as follows:

    • Development of decay in the underlying teeth

A lot of the time, the supporting teeth near the porcelain veneers start developing decay. After the placement of porcelain veneers, many places face exposure, including the gum line and the back of teeth. The veneers only offer coverage to the front part of the teeth. As a result, unprotected areas are prone to developing decays if they do not get the required oral care.

The loosening of veneers is also one of the leading causes of decay. If they start getting loose, gaps get created between the veneer and teeth, which invites bacterial growth and plaque. Their development ultimately leads to the decay of the teeth. After the development of decay, it is crucial to get immediate removal and replacement of the porcelain veneers to treat the decay and reverse the damage cost to the teeth.

    • Damage to the veneers

Despite their durability, porcelain veneers often experience damage due to improper use. A lot of people grind their teeth constantly by habit and ultimately cause damage to their veneers. Along with that, biting caps of metal pens or hard solids and facial trauma can lead to chipping and fracturing of the Veneers. In such cases, timely replacement of the porcelain veneers is necessary for the protection of teeth from decay and other damages.

    • Weakening of the bond between veneers and teeth

Porcelain veneers are bonded to the teeth with the help of dental cement. This material provides strength and health in bonding. However, it starts weakening after some time and causes the veneer to get lost. Reading loses the nearest enhances the chances of teeth decay as they facilitate the development of bacteria and black between the gaps. Therefore, it is crucial to replace veneers when they start getting loose. It is important for preserving dental health and preventing further harm to the teeth.
